What He Said!

Everyone seemed to universally love the Doritos ad at the Superbowl that depicted the "tough" little boy. Everyone thought it was hilariously funny. Well I didn't, but my objections ran much deeper than that. I was livid after seeing that commercial, and for exactly the reasons spelled out in this wonderful article by Dennis Prager.

my favorite excerpt is this:

Those who argue that the boy was just defending his mom may well be right. But that only further reinforces the point of what a dysfunctional scene the ad was portraying: A leering man, a mother dressed in a sexually provocative way, and a sexually aware child who essentially serves as man of the house at the age of five.

Read it here.

So, call me a prude if you want, but give me the Betty White ad any day of the week.

It's Time to Show Your True Colors . . .

And Bleed Blue!

I may have mentioned that THE COLTS ARE IN THE SUPERBOWL on Sunday.

I am so excited I can hardly wait. I am again having the fashion dilemma of how to pair my official Jeff Saturday Jersey with dress slacks for Mass. Because I have to support my team.

I also have a huge amount of admiration for this team and the way they have acted. They don't trash talk, they are very humble about why and how they got to where they are, and they really deserve to be in this game.

Another thing that has always impressed me about this team is that they have a team of Chaplains to support the spiritual needs of the entire team, not just one guy who is a figure-head for show. I have had he privilege of meeting the Catholic Chaplain on that team, and I know that he takes his job very seriously as the "surrogate pastor" for the ten Catholic players and their families and the Catholic support staff.

You can read all about him, and his impression of the team in this article.

Fr. Pete has been blessed to have a great job doing what he loves for a team he loves.

I just hope that no one gets hurt on Sunday, and if they do their best the Colts pull out one more Victory this year and we bring that beautiful trophy home again.

Just in Case You've Been Living Under a Rock . . .

The Colts are in The Superbowl again! It was an amazing game -- of which I missed the entire first half because I was being an obedient student and was sitting in class learning about The Theology of The Blessed Trinity. -- But Fr. Denis was compassionate and let us out of class early so I got to hear the entire second half (which the Colts totally dominated both offensively and defensivly) on my drive back home from St Meinrad.

Anyway I just wanted to give a shout out to my boys in blue and let them know that I will be watching a little more than commercials on Superbowl night as they take on the New Orleans Saints. It might be a close game, but I think my boys can do what they do best, win, win, win.

I don't know if you are all aware that Our Colts have a Haitian connection? Pierre Garcon, the second year wide receiver is from Haiti and has relatives who still live there and were injured in the earth quake. He placed a Haitian flag on the table where they presented the AFC championship trophy last night to honor all of his countrymen and women who died two weeks ago. It was so moving.
Oh, just as I did two years ago, in honor of my boys for the next two weeks all of my blog posts will be in Colts blue.

GO New Media Monday Morning Quarterback

So, Which of the Superbowl 42 Commercials were your favorite?

I have to say that mine were the E-trade spots with the baby, especially the one where he rented the clown with his "extra coin" and "really understimated the creapiness" I laughed so hard at that one.

If you want to re-experience all of the Superbowl ads in their glory you can find them here.

Oh by the way, who knew it would be a Manning Two-fer! If the Colts couldn't win I suppose having Peyton's little brother pull it out in the fourth quarter and keep Miami as the only team with a perfect season (Go Coach Shula, we love you man. I bet that champagne tasted awesome last night) was the next best thing.

The Mannings Rule!

I will also have to admit it was a lot of fun watching Tom Brady get sacked time, after time, after time.

Last Word (for this season anyway)

This picture is one of the reasons that the Colts are the best team in the NFL. This is how they ended their season, after the game on their knees in prayer. It is also how they began their season interestingly enough according to an inside source.

hat tip to Suzanne for the awesome picture.

Winning is Sweet!

Or was that wet?

Colts Win!!!!

Did you see that game?

The Colts played really well considering the conditions. I was sure that the continual downpour was going to favor the team that normally plays in an outdoor stadium in less than optimal conditions. And yet, the Colts outperformed the Bears in First Downs, rushing yards, passing yards and just about every other category.

It was really nice to hear not only Tony Dungy speak about how much the team owed to God for their victory, but even Jim Irsay mentioned that the Lord had been watching over the team this year.

I am totally exhausted, but so very happy. I am trying to convince mrangelmeg to make a little road trip up to Indy tomorrow to welcome the team home. I doubt that we will be able to do that, but it sure would be nice to get
an autograph for my jersey.

I think under the circumstances I will have to content myself with watching the festivities on the television.

GO COLTS!!!!! Oh, and for six guys on the team have a great time in Hawaii at the Pro Bowl.

Do Not Disturb

I am a little busy this afternoon.

Watching the Superbowl.

Did I mention that the Colts are playing in the Superbowl this afternoon in Miami?

I think I may have mentioned it once or twice this week.

I will be watching the entire game, not just the commercials this year. That will be practically a first for me.

See you tomorrow.

Couldn't Happen to a Nicer Guy

Check out this story from our Diocesan newspaper. It is about the Colts team chaplain Fr. Peter Gallagher. I have had the privilege of meeting Fr. Pete, and he is so genuine in his love of both his faith and the sport of football this is the perfect place for him to be.

Did I mention that The Colts are in Miami this week getting ready to play in the Superbowl on Sunday?

Oh, I thought I had.

Pax

Did I Mention . . .

The Colts are in the Superbowl!

In Honor of that Fact all posts this week will be in Colts Blue. If you don't like it . . .

I respectfully say . . .

Can One Have an Unnatural Attachment to an Article of Clothing?

I got my Jeff Saturday Jersey in the mail on Friday. I LOVE IT! It may become my favorite article of clothing. I think if I could get away with it I would wear it every day this next week leading up to the Super Bowl.

Did I mention that The Colts are in the Super Bowl? There is some other team in the game too, but they aren't worth mentioning, at least on my blog.

I wonder how I coordinate a church outfit that includes a football Jersey? Hmm, what length of skirt is best suited for wearing with a Jersey? Or maybe this is one time when it would be appropriate to wear dress pants, just this once. (You see, I am still old school enough to wear skirts or dresses almost every time I go to Sunday Liturgy) I think for Superbowl Sunday I might just allow myself an exception.

After all The Colts are in the Superbowl!!!!!!

Go Colts!

Saturday in the Endzone Sunday!!!!!!!

for a Colts TD even.

Pro Bowl bound Center Jeff Saturday made the only Touchdown of his football career last night in the Colts 38-34 victory over the New England Patriots when he recovered a fumble on the goal line and edged it over for the score.

It would be a minor understatement to tell you that I am a huge fan of Jeff Saturday. I absolutely love him and am an avid fan of his weekly appearances on the Bob an Tom radio program. I have a standing agreement with mrangelmeg that if the Colts won last night's game he will get me a Jeff Saturday jersey to wear at our annual K of C Superbowl Chili Cook Off. So, mrangelmeg . . .

I was so excited to see his Touchdown last night I was celebrating for it more than I was for the team's win.

Being the child of a father who grew up in Chicago, this Superbowl is going to be very interesting. In fact Rex Grossman, the quarterback of the Bears grew up right here in the same city as the angelmeg clan lives. But even with all of that, I am gonna be cheering to Colts on to victory because they deserve it. The entire team is a class group from Tony Dungy the coach and his staff, to all of the players.
