Just in Case You've Been Living Under a Rock . . .

The Colts are in The Superbowl again! It was an amazing game -- of which I missed the entire first half because I was being an obedient student and was sitting in class learning about The Theology of The Blessed Trinity. -- But Fr. Denis was compassionate and let us out of class early so I got to hear the entire second half (which the Colts totally dominated both offensively and defensivly) on my drive back home from St Meinrad.

Anyway I just wanted to give a shout out to my boys in blue and let them know that I will be watching a little more than commercials on Superbowl night as they take on the New Orleans Saints. It might be a close game, but I think my boys can do what they do best, win, win, win.

I don't know if you are all aware that Our Colts have a Haitian connection? Pierre Garcon, the second year wide receiver is from Haiti and has relatives who still live there and were injured in the earth quake. He placed a Haitian flag on the table where they presented the AFC championship trophy last night to honor all of his countrymen and women who died two weeks ago. It was so moving.
Oh, just as I did two years ago, in honor of my boys for the next two weeks all of my blog posts will be in Colts blue.

The Audible you Might have Missed from Monday Night Football

Peyton Manning called an awesome audible Monday night that surprized most of the Colts organization . . .

He contacted Jim Irsay, the owner of the team and asked if his friend Tiger Woods could be granted a sidelines pass for the game against the Dolphins.

It turns out that Tiger wanted to see the game and because of his, well, notariety the best place for that to happen without him being swamped by fans screaming "Tiger, Tiger, Tiger Woods Y'all" (that has to get really old) was going to be from the Colts sidelines.

Good thing that Tiger had a golfing buddy who happened to have some suction with the team and could hook him up.

Week 11

Colts 28

Jags 25

Peyton Manning threw 4 touchdown passes and proved again that if there is a way to get a win with any combination of players on the field, he will find it. That flick, pass to Luke Lawton for a TD in the second half was one of the nicest plays I have seen in a long time.

This was a big win for the Colts. It gives them a Division lead and a great position for the play-off run. Now as their injured players come back healthy for the end of season games they will be a real force to be reckoned with.

Count on that.

Monday Night Madness

Colts 29

Jags 7

The pre-game buzz on ESPN was all about how badly the Jaguars dominated the game last year. You would think that the Colts hadn't done anything like, well, I don't know, WIN A SUPERBOWL and 10 games in a row since last January.

The Colts did what they do best last night; play pretty even football and not get flustered when things don't go their way. And boy did they have a lot of chances to not get flustered last night. Peyton who usually is pretty accurate went almost stone cold for an entire set of downs and later he even tossed an interception (his second this season).

The one Jacksonville TD came completely on rushing right after the start of the second half -- in the entire sequence of downs there wasn't a single pass. But the Colts defense made up for that little bauble, effectively shutting down the Jacksonville offense. The Jags never got within scoring distance the rest of the game.

The other thing I was sick of hearing last night was how great a Quarterback Tom Brady is. To be honest I could care less. If all it will take is for Peyton to get a few more rings to make those lunkheads at ESPN think that he is just as good if not better than Mr. Brady, all they have to do is wait a few years. In my book Mr. Manning already has it over Tom Brady in integrity and on and off the football field. Not to mention he can do a lot more than just pass the football.

Go Colts!

Update

Colts 41 - Saints 10!

Take that every critic who says we don't have the skill to be a powerhouse team!!!

The Defense Rocked last night. And while the offense took a bit of time warming up Peyton Manning played an awesome second half (something he is becoming very skilled at doing) . Which just goes to show you can't count the Colts out when they are down (or tied) at halftime because as Coach Dungy says "The game isn't over until the end of the 4th quarter.

My apologies to Mark Mossa SJ who had to watch one of his favorite teams lose. Heck even Archie Manning (Peyton's dad, who played for the Saints) had to watch his team lose last night, but I think in this case he was rooting for his son's team.

Spend Time With Kids . . .

Peyton's Monologue, check out the respect he gives to his mom, It brought tears to my eyes:

This was the United Way spoof, definitely rated PG, but worth it I promise.

I Know Where I Will Be . . .

at 11:30 p.m. tonight,

I have yet to even see a promo, because we have our ballroom class on Friday nights. So I am really excited about getting to see this week's skits. I think if they write to his strengths, and he is self deprecating enough to be able laugh at himself (have you seen his commercials?) this could be about the funniest of any of the other sports hero SNL weeks.

A Pretty Good Weekend for Sports

In the angelmeg household anyway.

First our Beloved Cardinals won the World Series in just five games. My favorite fan poster of the series was the one that said Experts are Idiots because all of the pundits had the Tigers winning the series and some even said it would be a Tiger sweep.

Then yesterday IU beat Michigan State in Football. And it wasn't just a squeak by win in the last second, they dominated the entire game and won with a 46-21 final score. We were working the concession stand so we could only watch the small monitor posted in the concourse, but it sure looked like a good game, and it sounded like the fans were having a great time.

And Finally, tonight our Colts kept their title of Undefeated, and the best clutch team in the league by defeating Denver 34-31 in one of the tensest games I have ever watched them play this year. I love Peyton Manning, I am also a big fan of Jeff Saturday, the center.I am really beginning to love Adam Venatieri. That man can really kick them when we need them. He has a lot of poise and has come in to win a few really close games for us this year.

So, needless to say the sports fans in the angelmeg household are pretty happy bunch. And we didn't even watch a golf tournament which probably would have really made the weekend perfect.
