Bye Bye Bayh

from the Senate anyway.

Evan Bayh is going, going, gone baby gone from the Senate as of the end of his current term of office. Why did he decide not to run again when he had $13 Million already socked away in his reelection war chest? Maybe it was just that he took a look at what has been happening on the political landscape and decided he would rather bow out gracefully than lose, which is something he has never had to face as a political candidate in his three runs for office.

I can't say I will be sad to see him go, but this will make our Senate race all that more interesting depending on who runs as a Democrat against Dan Coates next year.

Is The Obama Youth in Our Future?

This article states that only after a web furor was the wording on Obama's official website changed to soften the idea of compulsory service for middle school and high school youth in the "Classroom Corps". Now the site states that the service will be "a goal" in middle and high school.

Further there will be the carrot of a $4000 tax credit for every college student who performs service in the first two years of matriculation. (I wonder where that money is going to come from because that is a heck of a lot of carrots if every kid in the country takes advantage of it).

But in order to receive this carrot, according to Rahm Emanuel there would be mandatory civil service. The following is in his own words:

"It's time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, all Americans between the ages of 18 and 25 will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service."

Tuccille comments, "Emanuel and co-author Bruce Reed insist 'this is not a draft,' but go on to write of young men and women, 'the nation will enlist them for three months of civilian service.' They also warn, 'Some Republicans will squeal about individual freedom,' ruling out any likelihood that they would let people opt out of universal citizen service."

Are you going to take into account that our beautiful daughter who is a freshman in college is High Functioning Autistic, a disability which makes it almost impossible for her to fit in with a group of people. She is struggling to find a job even with the help of vocational rehabilitation support. I can't imagine the nightmare that Mr Emanuel's basic training and civil service would be for her. What kind of protections will be put in place to assure that she will not be terrorized by the system?

And another point, I don't know about other parents, but my children do volunteer work, that mrangelmeg and I approve, and only when it doesn't interfere with their first priority, school work. I don't want their school, in an extremely liberal city to determine when and where my child will do community service without my input, thank you very much.

My 13 year old child will not be conscripted into anyone's corps, Mr Obama, she can do her service work alongside her father and myself at our Parish Church outreach or with the Gabriel project which collects items that women in unplanned pregnancies will need so that they won't have to turn to the desperate act of thinking of their precious child as a punishment (Your words Mr Obama). I am not against community service, I am just against conscription to do so.

All I have to say is, be careful what you vote for people.

h/t to adoro to devote for the heads up.

Integrity? I Think Not

Some might call it Chicago Politics played the way it had to be played; I call it sick, sad and indicative of the man who thinks he will be president.

I wonder if his petitions were scrutinized with as much due dillegence as those of his opponents?

This is why I keep praying

I continue to pray outside the local abortion clinic in my town because of stories like this one.

When the liberals who say they are working to make abortion unnecessary do what they say; I will stop supporting the local Pregnancy Care Center and Maternity Home and Project Rachel, which gives support to women who find themselves in a pregnancy that wasn't planned.

Until then I will continue to work and pray. As I have done.

If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

One of our candidates for President doesn't understand that the fundamental right to life is the most important right. If he can't get that one right how can I trust him to get any other decision right? This is one Catholic who won't be swayed by his slick rhetoric.

Losing Tim Russert is Like Losing a Trusted Friend

Tim Russert passed away yesterday of a massive heart attack. I was so saddened to hear the news last night, it was as though I had lost a trusted friend.

His political commentary was always balanced. Although we knew his background, (a Catholic man who had high moral standards) he never let that turn him into an overbearing holier than thou interviewer, even when the person sitting across from him was someone whose views were on the oposite side of the spectrum from his own.

He will be greatly missed.

There She Goes Again . . .

or why I don't like Mrs, Clinton very much at all, at all.

She chose to wear a bracelet similar to this, on the day of the primary in a predominately Catholic state, when she knew that gaining s strong Catholic vote would help her to win.

She is like a chameleon. She changes to become like whatever group she needs to court. I am sure you all haven't forgotten her misfortunate speech using black vernacular English at the predominately African-American church in Chicago a few short months ago.

We all need to redouble our prayers to Our Holy Mother (and her Son, and His Father) to keep Mrs. Clinton out of the White House.

Brace Yourself America

Your B16 Therapy Begins today!

His every move will be covered by all the news outlets!

Check here for just a "taste" of the coverage offered by one outlet.

He has said over and over again that this is a spiritual visit, not a political one, but with this being a highly political time you can bet that all three of the candidates are going to try to get face time with His Holiness to sway Catholic vote their way.
I think I would be more inclined to vote for the one (since none of the three is actually Catholic) who remembers that this is a time for Catholics to be with their spiritual leader and not try to politicize the event. ( as if that will happen.)

When Big Ideas Go Bad . . .

Dave Matthews came to town this weekend and offered to hold a free concert for Barak Obama supporters. He was inspired by the candidate's Big Ideas campaign. The concert was billed as Rocking the Change we can Believe in! There was a line that wound around the entire downtown area that began at the Obama headquarters as people waited patiently for their free tickets to the concert.

Unfortunately, the tickets started showing up for sale on Myspace and Facebook for upwards of $300 a pop. Not quite the kind of change Obama or Dave Matthews had in mind I am thinking.

Oh well, I hope the people who paid big bucks for the tickets, and the people who sold their tickets got what they were after out of the deal.

Politics is so messy.

File This One Under: It Could Happen, When Pigs Fly!

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards said Tuesday that he worked for a hedge fund to learn more about financial markets and their relationship to poverty in the United States.

Next he is going to eat at Five Star Restaurants to learn more about hunger and starvation.

Yeah, right

Someone Needs a Remedial Math Lesson

According to an Associated Press Article in this morning's paper Hillary Clinton says that the "vast Right Wing Conspiracy" is still around. On Tuesday she cited a New Hampshire case against three Republican elections workers who were b tried for phone jamming durring the 2000 election (two pleaded guilty and one was convicted).

I don't know where she is looking, but I can't remember ever seeing a Math book where three of anything was considered a vast amount.

But then I live in the real world.

Why Mommy Carefully Chooses Which Books Angelbaby Reads

Because This trash passes for Children's Literature.

It was bad enough that Ted Kennedy wrote a children's book.

Then Madonna thought she had to get her two cents worth in the Children's Literature genre.

And even before that we had this forced into our libraries as a "forward thinking piece of literature".

So, when the angelbaby wants to buy new books, we go together to get them so that I can "help" her to make good decisions.

Besides, angelbaby's mommy will never be a Democrat so long as they continue to vote for a woman's right to kill her unborn child for any reason. Any other stance they take has no moral value if they can't get that simple decision right.

Hat tip to Korrectiv for the first link.

Voticons

Those little emoticons just not expressive enough for the feelings you have about your ballot choices this election? The Curt Jester has come to the rescue with

Voticons to fill the bill.
