GO:New Media Monday (Adjusted for Vacation Time) Liturgy of the Hours on Podcast

Some of you may know that I love the Liturgy of the Hours but have a difficult time remembering to do it without some prodding. I have found that I love to use my IPod to do morning and evening prayer, but I really miss the Office of Reading.

Today while listening to Fr. Roderick's Daily Breakfast podcast from last week (I am usually about a week late listening to his podcasts) I found out about a podcast from a group called Catholic Classes which does the Office of Readings via Podcast, so of course I quickly subscribed to it and am downloading this week's readings as I type this.

Now my daily Office is complete. Morning and evening prayer and the office of reading is all I really need. I do a modified examen as my night prayer, and the rest of my prayer is a running conversation with God (usually, sadly apologizing to him for my judgmental thoughts about the people around me, but I am working on that.)

I hope you all can benefit from my interesting new media find.

Vatican Promulgates Driver's 10 Commandments

We all have seen how horrible the road rage has gotten in the last few years. Some of us may even have been victims of it. Some of us may even have been perpetrators of it. (I am the worst at shouting at drivers who are doing something stupid, just ask my kids).

The Vatican has stepped in to help us all in our "road to holiness" and has given us this wonderful document The Pastoral Care of Road Users. to aide us in our use of the highways and byways as Catholic Christians who hopefully eventually want to get to heaven. Included in this document which is well worth reading the entire document, is the Ten Commandments for Drivers:

I. You shall not kill.

II. The road shall be for you a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm.

III. Courtesy, uprightness and prudence will help you deal with unforeseen events.

IV. Be charitable and help your neighbour in need, especially victims of accidents.

V. Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin.

VI. Charitably convince the young and not so young not to drive when they are not in a fitting condition to do so.

VII. Support the families of accident victims.

VIII. Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so that they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness.

IX. On the road, protect the more vulnerable party.

X. Feel responsible towards others.

I may have to print those out and post them in my car, I used to get really upset at mrangelmeg when he stopped to help stranded motorists. Now I will have to think twice about how I feel about that. I will also have to be a little more forgiving of those people who do stupid things that make me mad in the car. My immortal soul may depend on it now.

h/t to Fr Roderic of Daily Breakfast/SQPN for the heads up on the ten commandments of you don't get the Daily Breakfast podcast you really should, they are awesome. At least go to SQPN and check out the other Catholic content you can get, I get three or four of them and they are all great.

Fun With Podcasts

Have you ever wanted to . . .

Learn a new Language in quick 15 minutes lessons?

or

Discover exactly what a Papal Document was all about by listening to a very knowledgeable Cardinal discuss his views on the subject.

or

Get the latest Hollywood News in a quick Headline Rap

or

Keep up-to-date with your favorite sports stories.

or

Get tips on how to get rich quick on the Internet?

or

Hear the latest Bands or Books before they are even released to the public?

All of this and more is available to you totally free of charge via the wonderful world of Podcasting. All you have to do to enjoy it is to download ITunes onto your computer, and look on the Podcast page of the Istore. From there you can register for any podcast you like; most of them are free.

Above are some of the ones I currently subscribe to, (and some I don't, you can try to decide which ones are which). Then ITunes will download them onto your computer and you can listen to them whenever you like.

If you happen to have an MP3 player (like the one mrangelmeg got me for my birthday, lucky girl that I am) you can take them with you. It is really cool to be able to listen to Cardinal Arinze's analysis of Deus Caritas Est as I am waiting at my daughter's school for her to get out. It actually makes the waiting much less of an imposition.

My favorite find has to be Coffee Break Spanish, which I listen to while I fold laundry. This one is really cool. It is taught by a man from Scotland. I am being taught to speak Spanish with the pronunciations that are used by people who live in mainland Spain by a man with a decidedly Scottish Burr. Only in cyberspace would this be possible. But hey, the next time someone comes up to me and asks me my name in Spanish, I will know exactly how to answer.

There are tons of podcasts out there for you to try and you can unsubscribe just as easily as you subscribed if you find them not to your liking. What do you have to lose?
