Life Update

So there have been major changes in my little world in the last week.

I have been working out for a month now, and in that first month without any change in diet I lost three and a half pounds of fat weight. I have lost an inch off of my hips and an inch off of my waist. it feels great.

Starting this week I am in a challenge at my gym where we are combining workout with watching our diet for a month. I get weighed today and I think I may have lost another couple of pounds just this week watching what I eat. I need to tweak my diet plan because last week I had a few days where my calories from fat were a bit on the high side, but I never really felt hungry all week.

I am suffering from bursitis in my shoulder and hip and all the wet weather hasn't helped that, but I have decided rather than lay off the workouts I am going to use biofreeze and hope the weather changes soon. It hurts to be good. This weekend I am going to focus on WiiFit yoga instead of strength training and maybe that will help too.

I will keep you all updated on my progress.

GO: Training Tuesday: Staying Fit Away From Home

In case you haven't figured it out yet, it is Spring Break around the angelmeg household and while we didn't get to follow mrangelmeg south (he is on TDY at an Air Force Base on the Gulf Coast for the next six weeks) the three younger girls and I did take a quick trip to this place. We are staying at a great hotel with an indoor water park.

I was worried that I wouldn't get a good workout in while we were on our little trip, but between our side trips to quaint little shops on three different levels, and all the climbing I have done in the water park to get to the different slides, there is a fitness center in the hotel that has a precor machine, so I actually did 30 minutes of cardio this morning. My trainer will be proud.

So my training tip for today is when you have to be away from home, find ways to build in time for fitness. Most hotels have some sort of fitness room, even if (like the one here) it only includes three simple machines --one of which is out of order. If your hotel doesn't have a fitness room, park farther away from where you are going and walk, or take the stairs instead of the elevator, or take a walk or jog in the morning or evening in the neighborhood or nearby park.

Once you begin an exercise routine, it is hard to give it up even for a few days. I can't believe I actually typed that sentence and actually meant it. I am growing in many ways while my waistline is shrinking.

Time to Do Something

So yesterday we went to the Y. I haven't been in a really long time. My feeble excuse has been that I have been so busy with finishing the darn Gradual School degree that I just didn't have time.

In the meantime my old nemesis Arthur has mounted a full scale invasion. In my short workout yesterday I found that his forces has marshaled troops in my right shoulder and left hip, two new spots.

I tried to get as much done as I had before, but I was afraid of really doing some damage because I'm not sure how to use certain equipment correctly.

So, I have decided that I need to stop thinking about this and do it right. I looked at the bulletin board that introduced all of the trainers available for hire and there is one that is working on a PhD in Physical Therapy. I think I will go in there on Tuesday and see if I can get him to take me on as a client. That way I can explain to him that not only do I have to deal with arthritis, but I also have the issues with my lack of an ACL in my left knee, and make sure that when I am doing the exercises and using the equipment I am actually doing good, not harm.

I am tired of not being in shape, and I want to get into shape before mrangelmeg and I go on our anniversary trip this summer, so if I get started this winter I should have plenty of time to see some good results before summer.

Wish me luck, even with the best trainer in the world it will still be up to me to do the hard work.

Hey, stop laughing, it could happen.
